Dance Excellence at Marsden State High School is an audition-based program designed for students who demonstrate both potential in the Dance discipline and commitment to their growth as a dancer.

The Year 7 – 10 Dance Excellence classes run during curriculum time and are designed on the Australian Curriculum. This structure provides our Dance Excellence students with core Dance knowledge needed to progress through the subject while extending themselves beyond the expectation of a General Dance class.

Year 11 and 12 students who demonstrate a level of excellence in the ATAR-eligible Dance General subject or Applied Dance in Practice syllabus may be recognised as a Dance Excellence student.

Superior Opportunities in Dance

Dance Excellence students are provided with extensive opportunities to learn from a range of industry professionals in their Excellence classes and extra-curricular teams. Our students are privileged to learn from Kirra Stray, Kyle Borg, Heidi Jennings, Vanessa Friscia, Wanida Serce, Jess Briske, Claire Griffin, and Casey Hargraves.

It is compulsory for students in Dance Excellence to participate in at least one extra-curricular team to extend themselves as dancers and performers. The extra-curricular team options include:

  • Elite Hip Hop

  • Elite Hip Hop Development

  • Elite Technique (including jazz, contemporary and lyrical)

  • Emerging Hip Hop

  • Emerging Technique (including jazz, contemporary and/or lyrical)

Community Partnerships

Dance Excellence is proud to have established a community partnership with Bloodline Dance Company in 2021. Students in the Junior and Senior Elite Hip Hop Teams have the opportunity to train weekly with mentors from Bloodline to improve as a dancer and performer. Both teams learn two original competition dances every year experiencing the invaluable lessons of what it takes to be a professional and innovative dancer in the hip hop community.
