Marsden State High School believes in preparing students for a 21st century society that is constantly evolving, particularly through the development of technology. Developing competent and confident users of technology is critical to our students' participation and engagement in this world. As we continue to develop the schools technology resources we also encourage and value the need for students to be familiar and comfortable with their devices.
Through the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the curriculum, we are helping students become knowledgeable about the nature of information, comfortable with the technology and able to exploit its potential. The overall philosophy is to use ICT whenever its interactive potential can enhance and extend the quality of work being undertaken by students. It is used to develop logical thinking, problem solving and control techniques and also to give confidence and the capability to use ICTs in later life.
Our main goal is equipping and empowering students, rather than merely transferring knowledge - guiding students in learning to learn. We believe students are eager to learn and with guidance they will seek out and discover knowledge on their own. Teachers as life-long learners will continue to focus on their curriculum and balance their pedagogical skills to best utilise ICT in an educationally purposeful way. ICT in a contemporary world is being reflected in classrooms.
In the BYOD program we aim to establish an environment and a relationship with students where they can feel safe, comfortable and are able to be encouraged to push themselves to the best of their abilities in all learning areas.
Devices should support:
· Evolving use of ICT for collaboration and creating of knowledge
· Extensive ability to share information locally and globally
· Online educational environments
Information and Communication Technology is integral to learning. The use of ICTs can accelerate, enable, improve and transform student learning in all key learning areas and phases of education. Through use of ICTs, teachers can engage the digital generation, improve individual learning opportunities, spark innovation and enhance pedagogy.
