The Marsden State High School Girls Rugby League Excellence program provides young females the opportunities to develop holistically through the sport of Rugby League.
Superior Opportunities in Girls Rugby League
Within the program, girls are provided with opportunities to acquire life skills that enable them to become better people first, and better players second. The Girls Rugby League program provides our girls the opportunity to develop lifelong learning and leadership qualities to assist in both education and sporting environments. The program is gifted the opportunity to be a part of several major competitions across South East Queensland. The marque event for the state is the National Schoolgirls Cup, which we won for the very first time in 2022.
Secondly, we compete in both the Titans Cup and the Karyn Murphy Cup, both week by week competitions played against other year defined teams with school rugby league programs. Our Excellence students are also provided pathway opportunities to advance their representative selections through Metropolitan East selections for the QSSRL Girls Rugby League State Carnivals in 14-15yrs and 16-18yrs. These lead to Queensland Schoolgirls selections, and for the first time in 2022, Australian Schoolgirls selections, for which we had 2 players selected.
Throughout the program, each athlete is provided with an individualised strength and conditioning program that aims to improve speed, strength, power and fitness elements to enhance their performance in Rugby League. Support is offered to girls within our program through the dedicated coaching staff, along with the student – led #MTC Program, an award winning mental health program designed to provide strategies for our students to be successful at home, in the classroom and on the sporting field. Throughout their senior years, girls within our program also have the opportunity to attain their Certificate III in Fitness, a qualification that is well regarded within the community and enabling the girls to have a successful transition to work or tertiary education.
