Marsden State High School has a very proud rugby league history and is only one of only six schools in South-East Queensland to be given automatic qualification into the GIO National Schoolboys Cup. The Excellence Program offers students a direct pathway into the NRL through its affiliation with Souths Logan Magpies and the Brisbane Broncos. The aim of Marsden’s Rugby League Excellence Program is to produce well-rounded athletes, unlocking both the student’s rugby league and academic potential.

The Marsden Rugby League Excellence Program boasts an experienced and highly qualified coaching team. Each year level is assigned two coaches who deliver 2 x70 minute practical training sessions per week, plus 1 x 70 minute theory based session per week. The theory based lesson is derived from the HPE curriculum, but is modified to be rugby league specific to maximise student outcomes. Marsden’s #MTC (Mates Talk Change) program is heavily embedded into the Rugby League Excellence Program. #MTC is a program that promotes good mental health and it also provides several leadership positons for Rugby League students in each year level. In addition to this students are also encouraged to use the schools on campus gym facility, and are prescribed specific gym programs depending on their age and level of development. Marsden receives entry into the premier ‘Broncos Cup’ (Yr7-10) and GIO Cup (Seniors) competitions, ensuring our students are given the opportunity to play at the highest level of schoolboy rugby league in Australia. The Program implements a holistic approach to rugby league and learning that seeks to develop pride, persistence and passion in all Rugby League Excellence students.
