Excellence Discipline: Football Excellence

Marsden State High School’s Football Excellence Program aims to provide students superior opportunities from a grassroots level through to the elite stage of development.  Marsden competes in South East Queensland’s highest level tournaments including the Schools Premier League, Bill Turner Cup, Veto Cup and SEQ Futsal.

Superior Opportunities

Students in the Football Excellence Program attend three timetabled lessons a week. These sessions include one theory lesson, two training sessions (one for Year 7 and 8) and one inter/intraschool match. Theory lessons for Years 7-10 are aligned with the Australian Health and Physical Education Curriculum. Theory lessons for Years 11 and 12 are aligned with a Certificate III in Fitness (leads into Cert IV – qualified personal trainer).

Marsden’s #MTC (Mates Talk Change) program is embedded into the Football Excellence Program. #MTC is a program that promotes good mental health and it also provides several leadership positons for Football students in each year level. In addition to this students also have access to a strength and conditioning coordinator who prescribes specific gym programs depending on their age and level of development. Students may choose to implement this program either before or after curriculum time using the schools on campus gym facility.  We also provide students with a Physio at our premier competition game days, as well as assessment days at the school through our partnership with Fizzio for life. Marsden also incorporates ice baths and recovery sessions run by our highly qualified staff and supported by our Cert III students to ensure the best possible recovery for our students.

We continue to ensure students have the best opportunity to be identified and represent Logan District, Met East, Queensland and Australian levels as well as maintaining a close relationship with Brisbane Roar FC.  Through Years 7 to 12, students will gain accreditation as qualified fitness instructors (Cert III – Fitness), coaches (Grassroots), referees (Level 4) and also receive unique leadership opportunities.

Community Partnerships

Marsden has linked with two Football Clubs in the Logan Region - Park Ridge Panthers FC and Logan Lightning FC.  The scope of these partnerships is to ensure that the two organizations work together for mutual benefit and growth, part of which shall be the provision of a tangible pathway for Marsden students into football and education.

Pride, Passion, Persistence and Pathway Development

Football Excellence at Marsden is conducted by a team of highly qualified staff including one UEFA B, one AFC/FFA B and three AFC/FFA C-License level coaches with a wealth of experience in Football Brisbane and abroad. The Program implements a holistic  approach to football and learning that seeks to develop pride, persistence and passion in our students as well as a dare to inspire and make a difference attitude.
